If you’re having this kind of dilemma, here’s some advice for you:

1. Let your boss to contact you first. Most of the executives are not comfortable being contacted by the people they manage. Whether your close or not to your bosses, still, they want their privacy when it comes to their personal networking sites. And if your employer did send a friend request and you choose to accept it, keep in mind that you shouldn’t post anything that your boss might not need to see.

2. Protect your image. You can do this by securing your privacy. Facebook has privacy settings. You have to learn how to manage this feature for your own safety, otherwise, every photos and words you post can be seen and read by all of your Facebook friends as well as their friends. That’s how Facebook works. You can be viewed by thousands of people and you don’t want that.

3. Be kind. Before you open your Facebook account, make it sure that you are in a pleasant mood. It is unwise to use your account to badmouth your boss, a colleague or anyone in your office. This is a common mistake for many professionals. So before you write anything on your wall, be sure that your words offend no one.

4. Frequent monitoring on your Facebook account. You need to check your profile account regularly so you can act immediately if there’s something inappropriate – work-related – comment on your Facebook wall or see you in an embarrassing photo. Just delete those comments on your wall right away and click the “Remove Tag” under the photo to untag yourself from unwanted pictures.

Ask politely to the person who commented or posted the photos from not repeating it again just for your job sake. I’m sure your friends will understand.

Facebook is helping every person to connect to the world and it is up to you if how you are going to use it.
